Why isn’t it just common practice to just use “they” instead the entirely cumbersome “he/her”?
Like it’s just so much easier to type out and say, and it’s just better to use regardless.
The fun part is that you’ll have people complaining about it either way!
Yea, but the people who complain about “they” are assholes so we can safely ignore them.
I am offended by your use of ‘people’, that excludes folk and kin!
Rawr!
You were not appreciated in your time.
Not only is it more readable and aesthetically-pleasing, singular “they” is more inclusive of people outside the gender binary!
Love how the top comment doesn’t even answer the question. But TIL, I guess. If I had known this option existed, I probably would have used it. I’m going to play the “not a native english speaker”-card on this one.
Because “they” refers to multiple people?
It doesn’t though. They has been used for singular without knowing the gender for a long time.
Like at least since English has been a language.
Singular “they” actually predates singular “you”.
My friend forgot their umbrella at the office.
They nervously answered the phone.
They’re a lazy motherfucker.
I gave my friend a hug and wished them a speedy recovery.
Any of those sound unusual, or like they’re referring to more than one person?
I was taught this very aggressively in school, but it turns out that it’s just not true and there’s a long history of singular they.
Darude Sandstorm.
Not even joking
You can always use the recorder cover to see if they make a comment about liking the real version.
Banger.
None!
There should be no guilty pleasures in music. Especially dating. It’s much more attractive to have a wide range of tastes and be comfortable with what you like.
yea exactly. I don’t feel guilty for the music I like
Nickelback.
If I have to hate a reasonably decent pop rock band to earn points I shouldn’t even be on the date.
I don’t have a baseline when it comes to pop songs. Also, I have never been on a date anyways. So, it’s all good.
I’m personally not a fan of most of their albums, but I have to say that put on a great live show. They started as a cover band and last I saw them, they did a bunch of covers of 70-80s rock, all of which were very well done.
Doesn’t exist. I tell them what I like. If they can’t handle the truth then it wouldn’t work anyway.
I also don’t have guilty pleasures. I enjoy things.
Obviously the ska.
So I put my hands up. They’re playin’ my song, the butterflies fly away. I’m noddin’ my head like, yeah. Movin’ my hips like, yeah. I got my hands up, they’re playin’ my song. They know I’m gonna be okay. Yeah, it’s a party in the U.S.A. Yeah, it’s a party in the U.S.A.
I don’t know what I was expecting, but that was so much more.
My workout playlist consists of anime openings and Power Metal. I don’t watch anime nor play D&D, but I like the fast-paced and fantasy/superhero style.
To be fair, A Cruel Angels Thesis is really nice.
I have a philosophy to always expose my craziest parts cuz if they dont like them it eventually wont work anyway so id play cupcakke x mario kart remixes for them
I appreciate this and will do the same. 10 hours of They’re Taking the Hobbits to Isengard. Anyone who can make it at least 3 hours and is singing along instead of stabbing me is a go for date two.
ive seen barry manilow in concert 4 times
That’s pretty fucking awesome.
hes just one of those guys that gives a solid live performance. he sounds exactly like the albums, not a lot of extra bullshit… mostly him and the piano.
similar with weird al… my hands down favorite live artist.
Steely Dan. The worst part would be I won’t stop talking about the drum solo in Aja.
I bought a Front242 CD from a record shop once, got home to find out the staff had grabbed Steely Dan CD an put that in the case accidentally. (The days before tamper proof display adapters, where the media was stored behind the counter)
Aqua and Toy Box. Dog bless the early 2000’s
Taylor swift :p
I went on a 160 mile bike ride and wound up listening to the same Tove Lo album on repeat the entire time, not because it was too much of a hassle to change up the music or anything
Was it Queen of the Clouds? I like Lady Wood and Blue Lips too, but QOTC is just such a “leave it on, no need to skip any tracks” album for me. Such a vibe.
It was Lady Wood. I think QOTC is ‘the album’ but I usually listen to stuff that’s newer to me when I’m out exploring, so I was giving Lady Wood a fair shake. The songs I like the most on that album are so evenly distributed that I’d just zone out through one song and get excited to hear the next one
Ty from a new fan
It’s your first date and she/he asks what type of music you like. What’s the guilty pleasure you won’t tell her/him about?
I love music and hate but being myself (AuADHD weeeee) so, they’re going to hear an honest answer. If they’re not down with my love of folk punk and what I classify as “shitty punk rock” (you just the kind - overly-compressed, terribly mixed, played by people who barely know how to tune a guitar), well, that’s fair enough. Same as if they aren’t up for my, AuADHD - neurodivergence can be a bit to handle.
I see a potential fellow days n daze enjoyer…?
Nothing “potential” about it. :)
A cultured individual indeed, they’re my favourite band
