In my experience pretty much all IP cameras phone home in some way at some point, so yeah, you are best off putting them on a separate VLAN and routing appropriately.

The only brand I’ve had a good experience with is Reolink. I don’t think the quality is appreciably different than a brand like Hikvision and the firmware and support is vastly superior.

Edit: Some good info on using Reolink cameras with Frigate. I use Blue Iris but would vastly prefer OSS.

Are you clothed and eat enough? Do live in a place that is basically comfortable? Do you never really fear for your safety? Do you have freedom of expression and choices and opportunities in the world?

On average, yes, it is better than the past, especially for people in North America and Europe. I could list all the reasons why, for me personally… like the fact that I’m not beaten or killed for my gender identity and that I can marry my partner who can have a successful career despite their race. But I suggest as an exercise you consider how your life would be in, say, 1924. If you can’t come up with anything, huge congrats on your privilege.

It’s easy to forget what it could be like and when we are relatively comfortable and complacent to get into the mindset of complaining that we only have a 55" TV and can’t afford to buy a house. It’s easy to forget that others don’t even have that level of comfort and that but for lucky circumstance we could be that “other”.

Edit: Let me a little more clear. Kling is the one bringing politics into it. The change was simple (one word!) and technically correct. It would be like if I said “I want our new logo to be red” and you said “don’t bring politics into it” when really I just like tomatoes and sunsets.

Yes, they can. And I can also view their views with disdain… or even horror and choose not to support their efforts, whatever they may be.

What you are really saying here is that you to some degree don’t disagree with Kling and so it’s this particular view you find acceptable to let pass. If it were something like “people should be fine eating small children” you might react differently.
