The current situation with trains is shit because we as a country have allowed it to deteriorate.
Waiting 3 hours for a freight train is one such example. The majority of rail lines are owned by freight companies, so they give their own trails priority over passenger trains. That shit is unacceptable.

One of the next steps that these corporations are going to take is to add fees for dropping their services, with year long contracts.
They don’t want competition, so they will try to force you to stay.
During the rise of nazis in Germany, there were quite a few Americans who sympathized with the nazis, and there was even an American nazi party at one point.
WW2 just told them they needed to be quiet and stealthy. They didn’t really go anywhere, and their influence over the GOP has only grown.

Agreed. Though it has crossed my mind that the in universe explanation for why the Federation is so enlightened and willing to care for all of its citizens because of the horrors Earth went through.

Wanting to breath clean air on a habitable planet isn’t insanity.
It’ll look like what we already have. Swaths of users self hosting, with lots of redundancy to deal woth instances that have problems.

They would probably actually have a decent shot at getting away with it, at least at first.
And to answer your question, it’s because the anger that companies generate by doing this shit ends up turning into piracy. Why would you try to punish a corp for doing this (likely wasting your time) when a cheap VPN and basic tech literacy gets you what you want?
The effort ratios are way out of wack when it comes to digital products. It’s easy to get around digital bullshitery, not so much in the real world where we are all car dependant.
