Turkey and Russia. It’s clear that profit seeking corporations would bow, but then Elon screams bloody murder when reactionary forces in Brazil manipulating social media get censored.

And all upvoted. Apparently hate wagons work well, no matter the cause
Sure, but the only way to counter AI spam in the dead internet might be to have your own local AI model to filter junk out. And that has to be with the browser.
There is also cookie consent spam, ads and newspaper “notify me” shit that probably can only be fixed with AI.
Your take is that Mozilla doesn’t think before they adopt, except people here don’t think about what not to adopt either.
Only a good AI can stop a bad AI with a pun
The worst part is the banks. You have to get lucky to be allowed to use online banking without agreeing to some sucky TOS.
I was excited about starlink when it was announced, but already it’s way too expensive, already bows to actual totalitarians and isn’t affordable on the ocean and not available in remote places without a license.
And with more satellite constellations planned by amazon and others, it seems the kessler syndrome is just a question of time.
How good does it work on an external 4K monitor? Can you watch 4k video? I imagine youtube and browsing reddit or news online shouldn’t be a problem.
Basically I’d like an ultra low power PC for boring desktop stuff on 4k monitor.
That’s right. We export our fascism to shithole countries so we don’t have to deal with it at home. Checkmate socialists!
If I run some AI model on my GPU and power my computer via solar power and some batteries, am I actually contributing significantly to GHG emissions?
Like what is the embodied energy of an AI model?
As usual, pundits and scientists confuse what is and what could be with the truth. For example plastic recycling isn’t possible because “right now economics don’t make it profitable”. Meaning capitalism is killing us, not plastics. I suspect the same is true for AI.
Don’t they HAVE TO open their messaging app now with the “EU Digital Markets Act and Digital Services Act”?
EDIT: Huh, no they don’t (link) cause they are not “core platform”…
Not sure what sapphire means, but here is the article. Just appending records and differential backups would seem to be the way to go.
the new optical disks are claimed to be “highly stable so there are no special storage requirements.” The researchers tout an expected shelf life of 50 to 100 years
I had (naively) hoped that starlink wouldn’t even need a license to operate in a specific country. When their satellites eventually fully communicate between them without ground station it becomes incredibly powerful. Sort of like one of those ancient world wonders. Technology now allows to live and work everywhere in the world or on the ocean in seasteads.
Unfortunately it’s owned by greedy oligarchs and the planned multiple constellations make a kessler syndrome more and more likely.
I wish there was a cheap and millennia-long lasting microfilm you could transfer books to. A projector is a pretty simple device to operate. Hmm that reminds me of “Last Words (2020)”.
Well yeah but BluRay is still much more expensive and smaller capacity. Lets hope this new 125TB disk works out
M-Disk is rated to last like 100 1000 years. They are also working on a 125 Terabyte CD. Optical storage is the way to go.

I think it’s a problem with VPNs
Honestly the best would be “behind the head” earphones. No tangle. And then add like a few extra grams to include a portable music player and a small battery. Plus usb-c to transfer and recharge. Or plus bluetooth. Best of all worlds.
But what I really want are big noise protection / noise cancelling headphones with an integrated mp3 + opus player plus bluetooth.
I think it would be easier, since it does not require agreement on transaction between two parties, only signing your own transaction. Anyone can fork and clone anything, and then add to their own signed version. All that is required is that you cloned from an existing trusted version and you made these changes to it. It’s easy to verify.
It only requires that the user can select some release group that they trust and store their public key.
To bow, or bow down or kneel for. But I’m not going to google that for you haha. The basic problem is that starlink theoretically has immense power so it becomes a political tool. He bows to those ones but not to legitimate democratic interests.
Especially once starlink and others can make landline based internet connections obsolete by pricing them out - which they are not currently doing though, but it seems only a matter of time with competition. Basically we could get to a situation where there are only like 2 or 3 internet provider practically controlling internet globally.
