I have questions
It is created by the samw dev as pixelfed - wouldn’t be surprised if parts were reused to bootstrap quickly.
Irc is not federated, though. Servers don’t talk to each other
Takes half a minute to start playing, which gets annoying real quick when a toddler gets involved with all the short videos.
Random buffering every 10-15 minutes on most 1080p as well as 4k videos.
Random buffering every couple of minutes on certain videos - the whole of the office us
is the last one I remember.
Crappy multi audio track support - some of them play, but most don’t. What was most infuriating at first was jellyfin happily selecting the track I want in UI and then just playing the default one anyway.
The UI is kinda crap - I understand moving on a tv screen is more difficult, but god damn - what jellyfin is doing with arrow navigation is plain masochistic.
When it works - it’s beautiful. But it rarely does so for long enough.
I really want to like it, but it’s doing its best to push me away.
And before you suggest anything - I’ve already tried everything there is to try that’s available on the open internet. Happy to hear something that’s never been posted anywhere, though!
I can only vouch for my setup; many variations are available.
Hit me up if you ever decide to go self hosting route and need a hand with a thing or two!
Yea, it’s a constant battle. FWIW - try getting the important people onto signal. I use molly client and it has its own mechanism to sync messages in real time, or at least close enough to real time that I haven’t noticed.
One of the unexpected benefits of running grapheneos is that shit like whatsapp can’t cope without having play services available and, as such, doesn’t really do real time notifications. It still checks in every now and then, but that’s definitely bettee than it working “properly”.
I’ve always wanted to archive stuff, but storage costs keep getting in the way. Any idea if there’s some trick people use to get around it? I’d love me a tape robot, but that’s stupid expensive.
I’m still excited. I’ve probably used it long enough to simply not miss autocorrect. And it does multilingual bit very well!
Can’t recall what the title was, but I do remember reading a guide of sorts that essentially boiled down to “start following tags first, you can filter people later”.
Serves as a reminder that there’s always someone faster than you!
For some reason decided to give Kenshi a shot. Big mistake. What a timesink!
FWIW - starting a reply allows you to copy the original text.
For those already owning one - try setting up pihole or an equivalent. Sony could be serving ads from a domain used by something like a cdn, but I bet they don’t.
A bit of a PSA for LG owners running webOS:
I rooted my tv and now have adless youtube, but apparently root is not a prerequisite - there also installation using dev mode. Admitedly, haven’t tried it and it’s probably less convenient to get it set up, but then it should be a one time thing.
How do you control it? Any fancy integration or just good old mouse?
I’m a syaadmin now, but self hosting nextcloud is what got me my first IT job. I now host a bunch of stuff (even email!), lemmy included.
how did you decide that you would like to self-host? I wanted my friends to play a cs1.6 map I had created.
Thanks for getting into the specifics!
