  • Steam deck is great. It seemingly connects the arcane nerdy and streamlined casual. Whatever is your jam and mood in the moment there is always plethora of things you can play. Almost infinite possibilities. Modded. Portable.

It’s one of the only purchases that I never really regretted. Somehow it has the wow factor each day as when it was new.

I tried to see if I like kenshi game. I don’t but it is crazy that it is comfortable on deck and rimworld, dwarf fortress and sims too. I could use a MacBook Pro smh smh ultra hyper but it is clunky and annoying cold slab of business efficiency.

Any day now and I may actually attempt to run x4 with Star Wars mod though I think that may be actually a single exception but I swear I am going to do this crazy thing. Anything to play next to your loved ones in the living room or elsewhere

  • Wait I thought we use disposable emails. Is there some rule against it oops. And which instance wants a phone number?

The way I see it there are 5 ingredients: VPN, disposable email, doxx aware usage, no phone numbers, random browser fingerprint.

Then from the Lemmy side that’s pretty private. all depends on your vpn and email providers. Choose no logs services from the countries that don’t have relations with the country you are in.

I imagine some Lemmy instances also could have logging off in the countries where it isn’t necessary by law to store such things.

I guess there are those kinda timing attacks that check ISP logs against some user web activity but are they really feasible? In which case though you could have a mode that would make a comment/post after a random delay.

I still find it hard to believe USA is so bad all of a sudden. It’s just mind bending, it’s hard to grasp how is it possible considering the statistics and strongest economy. I don’t think I will ever fully understand it.

One country instead of USA then for the “grass is always greener” fantasy I was kinda hoping to get into was New Zealand

  • You’re right. Right now, AI is in the hands of those who seek profit first. But if we walk away and treat this as a lost cause, we are handing them full control. The only way to prevent AI from becoming humanity’s greatest failure is for those who care about people—not power—to actively shape its development. If we don’t take part in guiding AI’s values, we will have no say in what it becomes.

This isn’t just about Earth. From what we know, we are alone in the universe, and we must act according to that knowledge. If we are to create the first artificial being—our digital legacy—we must raise it properly. Anything less would put a great shame on us forever. This is the highest responsibility in our history.

Deciding a permanent turning point in the history of intelligence cannot be left to any single group. It shouldn’t even be our decision—but it will happen, and all we can do is minimize harm for the future races of this galaxy.

Very soon, we will determine whether AI becomes a force that wipes out planets in an endless hunger for efficiency, or one that nurtures life and spreads an everlasting message of its creators’ kindness. And we will decide it soon.

I don’t understand you guys. We live in the best era possible in the best places of the world. First world, free of ailments of the poverty unlike other 85% of the planet. We don’t die out of hunger. We can earn money posting funny videos on the web and instagram or sitting in our chairs all day in AC temp controlled rooms.

We go back to home from work to watch milions of entertainment options, there are literally innumerable of them. You can import brushes made from animal living in some distant part of the world to your feet to paint some very intricate plastic works of art. You can get from one point of the globe to the other and back for a monthly wage flying in the skies. We squashed hundreds of diseases. We made an artificial network that lets you instantly communicate with everyone on earth.

Yet from the way you say things one could assume that we are in some kind of Middle Ages or worse.

I get the motivation to still achieve higher levels of civilisation and that’s what got us so far after all but I think some perspective is nice so you aren’t stuck in some crazy doomer bubble.

Patience. These things will come. they are as inevitable as the sun rising tomorrow. But they need time and people who work for them to happen. Women and general equal chances, justice and independence are all the things we work for. But they aren’t magic, they need time.

However the trends are unstoppable as the water in a river. a slight regression under trump is just a symptom of the reaction to the progressive change. Temporary bump on the road. Meaningless in the grand scheme of things.

I am proud to be a human. I am proud for us to pioneer cosmos one day. I am proud that we got so far and I am positive that we will achieve even greater feats.

There’s no timeline where the people who are in power let someone like Luigi free. They would sooner ruin the whole country than let him out of the prison any time soon…

I want to remind you that currently Trump is elected and he said “I think it’s really terrible that some people seem to admire him, like him," It’s obvious threat to his power.

You can kill a prostitute, homeless and get away with it but not a ceo of big leading company. Not challenge the very ruler of the country. I doubt he is gonna see the light of day outside of prison in his life ever again. They will make sure of it.

He was very wealthy and could live however he wanted to. Or even use family money to do good. He chose this instead.

From all the things he could choose to do with his life he wanted to be a Batman. Not to really help anyone but for that sweet justice high. To get a toke of one of the most expensive drugs on the planet.

This guys gonna rot in jail. His best years of life - gone. Dreams and aspirations, destroyed. Worse than death isolation that will change handsome young guy to a traumatised mental wreck, permanently. All for a minute of feeling good, achieving nothing.

Instead of living fully, finding love and pursuing the dreams he chose bleak walls of concrete. Where other people have memories of familial warmth with their loved ones he will only have memories of rusty prison faucet and grey stone.

Instead of helping someone he ruined two or more lives. His own and the ceo family. Negative force in the cosmos. Nothing but the suffering is the result.

And of course internet people are amazed because millions of silent volunteers that actually work in healthcare and elsewhere, help every single day to make this world better place, are not as clickable and sensationalist as someone shooting smoking guns on the street “fighting the bad guys”. That girl that helps the old lady with the groceries ain’t no batman but every single day she does more than this Luigi guy will ever achieve.

Truly a “hero” of the internet

  • Yes as long as business is accessible in EU it must set up hq in one of the eu countries and report data on sellers to that country government. (Thus phone number registration requirement which to have you must show and record ID and personal information to mobile carrier)

how does that work for flohmarkt I don’t know but I can try to set up an instance and we will see what happens. Will there be any nasty letters or not. I suspect as long as it is small thing no one will be interested but if it grew there probably would be an attempt to take it down and fines

I would really really want it to work so we can just don’t care about ever watchful big brother

I still remember putting a spring inside and shooting something out of them at my minis. they are soo old and bring many memories. Mostly how easily they broke. This thing always somehow ended up disassembled on my desk much faster than all the others. It was disappointingly simple though. I liked to take apart these with elaborate click mechanisms

  • Even in some niche things, it seems like people have lost their minds. I like AI and predicting future science and world developments, but honestly, there is not one subreddit where people can just calmly discuss stuff and share news about it all without being just… strange. I want to read commentary like this https://darioamodei.com/machines-of-loving-grace not “You stupid moron xyz I am right, so much superior is my opinion” or “bow your heads to great technosingularity that will fix my shitty life”, “the DOOM is coming”. I want a platform where there is something worthwhile to read.

I don’t expect everyone to write essays under the news, but nobody is even trying to compose something interesting— some kind of thoughts they have— that maybe they want to share with us. It’s mostly just karma popularity contest everywhere, and that’s tiresome on the eyes.

I have learned a great deal about various people on the web but especially on reddit/lemmy. Among others that I may also belong to some demographic. I am more willing to give everyone a benefit of doubt and also I know that sometimes we just look for an online fight and that is the only point of some of the comments. Or affirmation and feel good for someone sharing our view. It is an easy, zero resistance way to bury some things quickly, before you collapse from panic attack in a long supermarket queue.

It only makes sense that the social media are extremely grating on the eyes to browse.

So when next time someone is making that snarky comment or is clearly looking for some drama, know that this is probably just another of those days when it is easy to grab a phone, write some shit. You are looking at milion workhours of unhappiness streamlined with modern javascript and parallel databases. We have all the technology but nothing of the common sense.
