  • The fact that many western weapons seem to go missing before they reach the front and the coincidence of the Azerbaijan getting a pile of muntions just after deliveries to Ukraine may indicate that the aims of the Ukraine govt may not totally align with those of western europe.

Or it might indicate that you‘re somewhat gullible and consume too much propaganda.

that my hobbies are collecting retro video games, watching 80s-early 2000s anime, and the like

I can promise you that you’re not the only human in your area that is interested in these things. Sounds almost main-stream to be honest. You do need to find a place where you can share your hobbies with others (conventions, gaming groups, fan clubs). Without meeting humans there is little chance to meet interesting humans (serendipity). I‘m not only talking about finding „the girlfriend“, but also friends in general.

Should I just give up? At times I feel like life and everything that comes with it is pointless, that it’s not even worth it.

Certainly not. You already realized that you want to change your situation; that’s a good first step already. Now talk to new people. It doesn’t matter where or who. Look for hobby meetups in your area and go there. You can also learn new hobbies. Join a choir or cake connoisseur championship for all I care; just don’t do it alone if you’re feeling low currently. We as a species are social beings and need social contacts. There are groups and clubs for everything.

  • Alt and title attributes for screen readers don’t require space. Actual labels require space that might vary greatly depending on the language.

    Home | Products | About | Privacy

Takes less screen space than e.g.

Startseite | Produkte | Über uns | Datenschutz

It is still doable, of course. It is just another thing one must account for. Languages that read from right to left or top to bottom are especially hard to implement in a satisfying manner, if you’re not used to it. With icons one can somewhat circumvent the issue.

  • Just check with your target areas jurisdiction first. At least in Germany your suggestion is considered illegal practice (I‘m unsure regarding the rest of the EU). Here, two uniform yes and no buttons are required to make an informed decision, according to courts (no suggestive design and no inconvenient hiding of the decline button are allowed). The reasoning is that if a user just clicks the highlighted button by muscle memory or convenience this cannot be considered valid consent.

God, I hope we can find a proper and widespread browser based solution to consent management soon.

  • It is hard to read text with very long lines. Have you tried it? You need multiple text columns if you want to use more horizontal space (newspapers and large books have been doing this for centuries for this reason).

Creating columns was quite tricky before the widespread browser support for the relevant css. There was at least a decade with widescreen monitors but without proper (and responsive) column support in browsers.

That being said: Pages that are newer than let’s say 2020 don’t have this excuse.
