Pippin helped Gandalf level up. Just in a roundabout way.
“I’ve never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure”
He changed his mind though…
…after three arrows convinced him of his error.
Looking at the examples together in context, slop is Google’s fault. Misleading titles and keyword stuffing, that was done to try and survive in the arms race created by search engine algorithms. AI slop is just icing on the cake.
I lost it at the Wilhelm scream. I’m convinced it was put into RotK as a brown M&M and missed.
Every bird you count is a multiple of i.
It’s one of those things that’s funny to read about later, but to experience it in real time was something else. It all started with a single seemingly innocent picture.
I was pre Rage, it’s what my kids grew up on, but the beauty of it is the simplicity. Even if you don’t get into it, you can understand it. It’s like a meme dialect, this one is pretty universal.
It’s well known in the fact that once you’ve run across it and someone explains it, you’ll usually see it later on without trouble after a few times. Although some forms of it are quite subtle, like this one. The title is the hint, otherwise I doubt many would have caught on. That being said, if you never happened across it, you’d wonder what the hell everyone is talking about. About like any other meme really.
Several? I only see one brain cell.
I think I dropped connection again.
My opinion is that the chance part falls into if AGI itself is possible. If that happens, it not only will leads to ASI (maybe even quickly), but that it will be misaligned no matter how prepared we are. Humans aren’t very aligned within themselves, how can we expect a totally alien intelligence to be?
And btw, we are not prepared at all. AI safety is an inconvenience for AI companies, if it hasn’t been completely shelved in lieu of profiting.
Left out the Last March of the Ents.
They’re called large language models for a reason, creating patterns of words is exactly what they do. And poetry would be “easier” to do better since a human reading it may try to find meaning where there isn’t. Unlike writing a story or something factual where a mistake is more obvious.
There’s other types of “small web” out there too.
That was my guess, I can’t get the page to load due to an error. Maybe AI’s fault too?
I believe it means existing links, which many are already gone. Not the ability to link.
I’ve had two wireless solar cameras for a few years now, and a doorbell one for a year. The main reason I picked Reolink was because it wasn’t tied to a cloud or account, it’s just on the local network for me to use as I want. Pros are that they are still working, both cameras and solar panels. It doesn’t take much to keep them charged up. They can’t compare to a wired higher resolution, but I wasn’t going to try and do all that for just monitoring an area. I did end up getting a repeater for the network as sometimes the connection would be bad or drop since they are near the edge of the network router range, and that seemed to help. The doorbell is much more reliable and fast, being wired.
Cons - they’re wireless, so there is lag both in logging on and in framerate. I moved one of them from one place to another and had to find a spot for the solar, discovering that during fall when the sun dropped but before the leaves fall there was a shadow, so I had to maintain the charge manually for a few week, which wasn’t a big deal with a battery bank. Only other complaint might be that the detection software isn’t perfect, especially for animals. We’ve set up a Blink camera (previously used inside a birdhouse) to watch some stray cats that the one Reolink kept totally missing even though it’s right in view.
But overall I think they’re quality, and I imagine based on the doorbell one that the higher end wired ones are probably pretty good.
