The guy who initially authored the bill voted against it so he wouldn’t have to give the Democrats a win. That’s where we’re at.

If you had actually ASKED the Sioux of the Black Hills about this, you’d know they’ve told pretty much everyone “yeah we don’t like Mt Rushmore, we don’t like Crazy Horse’s relief carving either, but we think destroying them is more disrespectful than just leaving them to fall apart on their own.” Like, this isn’t an uncommon thought. It’s just more complex than “blow them up”.
Don’t forget that criminal convictions take time. Months of time. By the time your rapist is caught, tried, and sentenced, you might have very well had their child already. Criminal convictions are not the neat and tidy SVU “oh we caught him and he’ll be tried and sentenced within two weeks” shtick.
It’s theorized this is partially why a lot of indigenous societies in the Americas simply didn’t use wheels in larger contexts. We’ve found perfectly engineered wheels in a lot of archaeological sites here in North and South America, but they’re almost always on toys. The theory is that civilizations like the Aztecs and various Native American and First Nations peoples invented wheels just fine, but since North America particularly lacks any form of native, easily-domesticated draft animal, wheels just didn’t make sense or save anyone significant enough time to really bother with in larger forms like carts or chariots.
He wasn’t. Tolkien, when asked about the various pseudo-Christ figures in his books (Aragorn, Gandalf, and Frodo specifically), always stated that he hated allegory as a literary device.
Don’t forget cops and military protecting stores in disaster zones, full of supplies that will wind up getting paid for by insurance anyway and will go bad before the store reopens.
AND they actively steal small brand recipes and ideas, then have a contract manufacturer churn it out at a cheaper price.
To quote (likely) John Swift, a lie can be halfway around the world while the truth is still putting on its shoes.
Not to mention that these managers had time to do this in the first place, which indicates to me that those managers are doing a whole boatload of nothing.
I did this once to my store manager. Dude wanted me IN, no matter how much I told him I’d been throwing up all morning. I managed to drive the 15 minutes into work…and promptly threw up all over his shoes when he started trying to yell at me on the sales floor.
Never had anyone doubt that I was sick again at that job.
No no, the worst thing would be having a beer with Lofwyr and everything seems totally normal after.
S-K is my favorite Corp to build stories around because it’s so incredibly easy to make lore-aware players incredibly paranoid.
The dragons are oligarchs.
It wouldn’t have surprised me if WOTC dropped D&D as a brand if Honor Among Thieves had flopped.
And in some cases, the IP getting a shit movie or show can tell the game developers “well, time to drop the entire brand for 15 years”.
Yup. The trans community has been doing this with HRT meds for YEARS because it was either straight up illegal, or almost impossible to obtain access because of the dozens of hoops you had to jump through.
Well There’s Your Problem did an absolutely horrifying episode about it. I recommend it.
John Wayne had to be physically restrained from beating up a Native American woman at the Academy Awards.
Totally employer dependent. Some places give you sick days and want you to use them if needed, some give you them and will absolutely throw you out if you use them, some don’t give you any, some people want you to use your PTO for sick time.
Didn’t they do this with Yakuza?
Nah, Reagan did it easy. Plenty of people will be totally ok with banning guns if THOSE PEOPLE start carrying and using them.
