Great writeup. I found the background the movie was screened against and the zeitgeist that permeated culture at the time extremely interesting. In many ways it sounds like the exact 180 of where we find ourselves culturally these days. I do wonder if we’ll see a similar series of generation-defining films over the next few years that attempt to inspire the same type of cultural revolution in the other direction.
I’m old enough to have seen it first-run. I loved it then, and it’s still one of my Top 20 films of all time.
