It’s been a little bit since Space Age released and I’m curious to hear what everyone has been up to lately in their factory!
On my part I’ve been ready to go to Aquilo for a while now but I got distracted rebuilding everything on Nauvis with a rail-based city block design. I also got a calcite mining platform up and running and switched over a bunch of production to use molten metal.
I’m hoping to check out Aquilo anytime now but I might have to do a bit of work on Gleba and Fulgora before I can afford to be stranded again.
What sorts of things have you been working on in your factory?
I’ve completed my Vulcanus "mega"base (so just 140spm of red, green, blue, purple, and yellow science), and got Gleba to a state I was happy with. I was consistently making agriculture science and the materials to launch a rocket out of it, and had a logistics system in place to expand the base with bots. I even designed a faster, more fuel-efficient space platform specifically to transfer the agriculture science to Nauvis.
Since walls apparently don’t work I had the weird idea of defending my base with artillery, because I haven’t unlocked any other fancy military stuff yet.
I then went to Fulgora and am currently trying to figure out its entire system. Unfortunately the islands are too far apart for the big electric poles to reach, even with rare quality.
Then, out of nowhere, a medium stomper decided to wreck half of my Gleba base, even though the spores never reached any of the nests. It conveniently avoided the few sections with gun turrets like the Pentapod egg breeding section. I frantically tried to destroy it with artillery, but I kept missing until it decided to just walk around in circles next to my yumako mash processing section. After a few hits, it was dead, but so was my Gleba base. It fragmented both my power and my logistics system, so I’ll need to manually go back to Gleba to fix everything.
I’ve found artillery to be a very effective defense on Gleba. I made a really big train loop that circles my entire base (a ways out from my spore cloud). Then every so often I have an ‘artillery station’ that is protected by very densely packed Tesla and laser turrets.
The train slowly makes its way around the perimeter firing at anything in range. Anything that survives runs over to the station to retaliate and is shredded by the turrets pretty quickly.
Fairly well. Procrastinating going to Aquilo.
I’m playing with a friend and we just got the Rush to Space achievement. Then we made a production for purple science packs quite quickly because we already had most of the stuff for those ready.
Now were probably gonna make yellow science packs and then go to fulgora. Before that I may spend some time on vulcanus though, as my friend did most of the work there and I have some plans for there.
Bear space age already multiple times. This time I’m doing something weird and interesting. I’m sourcing all the items to nauvis and putting it into the train network. As raw materials as I can get. Instead of making specific things on specific planets I decided to import Everything.
Besides gleba because that’s impossible with the fucking spoilage.
Also thinking of installing a mod to remove restrictions on items for each planet so I can just import the raw ingredients for everything.
Also been working on my space platforms, I have gotten several very efficient designs based on non-stop high speed throughput. Sense nuclear is nauvis, I rarely ever use solar and turrets on my ships are small and only for backup. Although thinking of just saving space and removing them. There pointless for the inner planets anyways.
6000 hours and still going. Making weird interesting and cursed designs are some of my favorite things.
I just finished lights around a constant combinator that serves as a switch for recovery of power in case of a brownout on Vulcanus. The lights are circling around the combinator while changing colours through the whole spectrum.
It’s completely useless and I love it and am very proud about it. I spent 2 evenings on it :-)
This sounds really cool. I already suffered a surprise brownout on Vulcanus (which came at an inopportune time) and I’ve been meaning to set up something before it happens again.
I learned how to build an alarm for the first time on Gleba so that I get a notification when my primary nutrient belt drops below a certain threshold. Now a terrifying klaxon warns me that Gleba is about to enter a catastrophic death spiral so I have time to fix it.
After beating the game i went to gleba to explore that beatiful planet and i’m thinking of redesigning the factory with the goal of making it simpler and with a higher throughput less reliant on bots
Packing for Vulcanus. Probably going to need more than 2 silos if I want to leave any time soon with everything. Going to a planet with an entirely new tech tree is exciting and scary.
Is Vulcanus your first planet after Nauvis?
That’s where I went first (mostly because I was desperate for cliff explosives). It’s such a great planet.
Yes it is! It’s my first time leaving the planet.
I just beat the game on a mod-free run. Now I’m farming shattered planet for Prometheum to do research, though there isn’t a huge amount of purpose to it now.
I sunk a lot of time trying to design a narrow ship that can go really fast through shattered planet. Higher than 270km/s is really tough
How narrow is narrow for your builds?
I finally built a ship capable of getting to Aquilo but even then I’m considering redesigning it a bit and scaling up even more. At first I didn’t realize how important overall width was compared to weight.
It’s hard. I can only get about 50k km into the edge before my ship dies. But I can go there and back to harvest Prometheum at least
I’ve also been hanging out on fulgora a lot this week. I have a huge recycler setup that uses legendary quality mods to recycle stuff, so I’m building up a nice stockpile of crafting goods in all the qualities, and made a blueprint to grind out legendary items
